The BEPIT toolkit is delivered by construction experts with a strong track record working in the housebuilding industry.
Our facilitators understand the issues around energy performance in depth, but they also know how to communicate them across different construction trades, teams and phases – and to onsite staff with differing levels of expertise.
Douglas is a housing construction expert specialising in energy efficiency and building processes. He managed and delivered the four year Innovate UK-funded BEPIT project, where he was one of the central sponsors developing the toolkit process and service offer. During the project Douglas was embedded in the construction delivery team as a researcher, to capture how contractors, designers and subcontractors interact to deliver zero carbon homes. His findings contributed towards establishing a database of critical processes and solutions now applied as part of the toolkit process.
Prior to joining Bioregional in 2013 Douglas worked as a site analyst for Stewart Milne on AIMC4 pioneering the volume production of low carbon homes. He graduated from Edinburgh Napier University with a first class Honours degree in civil engineering before obtaining an MSc in Advanced Structural Engineering.
Nicole has a civil engineering background and joined Bioregional in 1997. She led the Zero Energy Developent programme within Bioregional throughout the BedZED project. She authored the BedZED Construction Materials Report and the BedZED Carbon Neutral Toolkit. Nicole also initiated and led the Bioregional Reclaimed programme, promoting and trading in reclaimed building materials. She was Technical Director of the One Planet Communities Programme, responsible for developing and maintaining the core technical capacity at Bioregional, covering: ecological footprinting, Sustainability Action Plans, carbon accounting, energy, waste and other sectoral expertise as required by the team.
Nicole is listed in Building Magazine’s Top 50 rising stars of sustainability for 2012 and was a finalist in the Outstanding Women in Construction Awards 2014.
